This was a great see because it is (to me) the culmination of all the different periods and styles we studied previously, and it is also a lot of the ideas we are using today as a guide to good, correct design.
What is design? by Edgar Kaufmann was great to tell first, because it set the mood for the other text editions. While reading this text I felt very empowered as an internal designer (to be) because of all the brilliance it gave to the purpose of design. How design is an congenital determinant of the quality of human life, and how it affects everyone in every token of every eyeshot of what they do throughout each day.
It is avowedly that sometimes people mix interior decoration with interior design and this creates much confusion and gives design less importance than it really has. Also another source of confusion is how gigantic design is, and how so many things around us dismiss be considered design.
What I took from my reading of The International Style by Hitchcook and Johnson, is the overlap of the work from the giants of this style and the people that created this style.
This reading summed up the ideas and principles of modern architects and designers. The reading explains how there was a change in both the building and construction (technological advancement) component of design as well as in the art and architectural aspect of the design. A lot of big names, such as Sullivan, Wright or Van de Velde are mentioned as the early beginners of this style and to revolutionise the ones who crystallized the style, such as Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe or Oud. Le Corbusier in particular is singled out for his designs and writings, but others are later given as much importance in terms of the creation of the style. If you want to get a wide-eyed essay, order it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
