To Kill a Mockingbird Courage Essay

Courage is a big theme in the novel, To execute A Mockingbird, and the author Harper Lee shows what courage is totally about. Courage is not necessarily doing something with a gun in your hand but to do something you would not usually do or be scare to do. The three characters that demonstrated a significant amount of courage in the story was whoosh Radley, Mrs. Dubose, and Atticus Finch. These characters all had difficulties that they had to over postdate. Therefore, courage is not based on physical ability but the willingness to come out of your easiness zone and be brave when you might be scared on the inside.

shuttlecock Radley is one of the characters in the novel who took more risks which proved to be chivalric. snort never came out of his kin during the day and nobody knew why, but they thought he would come out at night when nobody could see him. This is showed when Jem says, Scout, I think im beginning to understand something. I think im beginning to understand why Boo Radleys stayed shut up in the plate all this time... its because he wants to stay inside. (Lee,227) This is explaining that Jem is growing up and the rumors about Boo Radley are probably not true. likewise his field is his comfort zone and when Boo Radley displays courage he will step out of his comfort zone.



One of the events that shows how courageous Boo is, is when he sees the children playing outside his house and on the street he starts leaving little gifts for them in a tree hole which shows him having enough courage to leave his house (comfort zone). The next right smart Boo shows courage is when Bob Ewell attacks Jem and Scout. Boo seemed to be watching over the children and when Bob Ewell started to attack Boo stepped in and stabbed Bob to protect the kids. This shows tremendous courage as Boo put himself in harms way to protect them and he went out of his comfort zone as well.
